Gretch 5120 ** Super Hot-Rodded Player*** - Musical Instruments - By Owner - Sale


⭕ Super-tricked out Gretch 5120. This guitar has been modified to be a pro-player.

Modifications include new Gretch Filtertrons pickups, TV Jones clear spacer pickup rings, pinned & shaped bridge saddle, aftermarket Compton Stainless bridge, and a Bigsby B7 with a Chet Atkins arm.
Electronics got a serious make-over with a treble-bleed circuit, orange caps and a push-pull tone pot for an out-of phase mod. The biggest bang for the buck was the Bigsby B7; the extra tensioner increases the break-angle of the strings over the nut, thus eliminating a lot of behind-the-nut sympathetic string vibration (theres still enough). Also, I replaced the stock, cheap white metal tube that connected the tremolo tailpiece to the anchor plate (using the shaft of a similarly sized old drill bit). This mod alone increased the sustain and tone exponentially.
With the solid tail piece connection, the pinned bridge, new Compton bridge, and a little nut shaping (along with alittle graphite lube), this guitar definitely stays in tune!
For that authentic Gretch sound, this guitar utilizes English mounts for the upgraded Filtertron pickups. It has TV Jones EM2 plastic pickup rings and risers to get the pickup height adjustment absolutely correct, while maintaining the traditional Gretch look (That was one of the problems with the original 5120 Pups.)

Priced at $750! The new Gretch 5420 (the rebranded 5120) go for $800 new, but they suffer from the same problems that the mods on this guitar were designed to correct--the clunky bridge slides too freely on the body prohibiting correct intonation; insufficient string-angle to the bridge from the standard B5 tremolo kills tone; and crappy electronics and pickups, which pups cant be adjusted to the correct height. With the upgrades, this guitar is a true player!
