1884 Meisel Violin


⭕ I have for sale a beautiful violin. Ive owned it for the last 27 years, but have not played for the last 20. Its time it moved on to someone who will play it.

German Violin, Friedrich August Meisel, Markneukirchen, 1884. Bearing the makers signed label, the two-piece back of birds eye maple, the ribs matching, the plane maple scroll, the spruce top of medium grain, the varnish of a golden orange color. Patterned after Joseph Guarneri. This is a high-quality work by an influential maker of the region, forshadowing a huge commercial era in Markneukirchen that lasted well into the 1920s. This is an example of the best work that was produced in the area by an underrated maker.

The pegs, soundpost, bridge and fingerboard were replaced by a luthier of the Meisel family in 1992 in Owatanna, MN.

The violin was inspected, and appraised by New York Violin Consulting Inc. at $8000.00.
