Woodie Long Outsider Folk Art


⭕ This original Woodie Long acrylic on wood measures 11 x 6. Woodie grew up in a family of 12 in a sharecropping community in Plant City, FL. He was a house painter by trade and began his paintings with his wifes hobby watercolor (she is talented in her own right) set in 1988 while recuperating from a respiratory illness brought on my long-term exposure to oil paint. He painted on many things: tin, wood, fences, paper, canvas....almost anything. Woodie Longs works are in many major private and corporate collections throughout the U.S. and abroad and have been shown in New York exhibitions since l992. Examples of his art are included in the permanent collections of the Cooperstown Museum, Philadelphia Museum of Art , Wiregrass Museum and the Columbus Museum of Art to name but a few. His paintings have been published in numerous books, as CD covers (The Song Catcher) and accompanying articles in major magazines and newspapers such as Smithsonian, The Washington Post and The New York Times. One of his paintings is also featured on a school text book in Alabama. I was fortunate to get to know him and his wife well when I lived in Destin, Fl. What a great person he was and sorely missed. Woodie passed away from lung cancer in 2009 but his colorful work lives on. Make AN OFFER!!!! All reasonable offers considered!
