St Croix Heritage Hair Sheep: No Shearing/Worming Needed - Farm & Garden - By Owner - Sale


⭕ St Croix are a medium-sized sheep that sheds out its coat each spring: you dont have to shear them. They were imported into America from the St Croix islands and were used to create the Katahdin breed. They tend to handle the heat better than the Katahdins (a breed that was developed in Maine), will breed out of season, raise 2-3 lambs at a time without any fuss, and can be milked for anyone who cant drink cows milk, but has an aversion to goats milk (or goats, themselves). Milking gets around a quart at a time.

They eat brush and scrub like a goat, but dont climb or destroy your fencing and are naturally parasite resistant so can be raised more organically than regular breeds of sheep. Rams are naturally docile - we never have to worry about aggression when out in the fields with any of the rams weve had. We have even trained two of them to haul brush and do other odd jobs outside of the breeding season.

They have a mild flavored meat that can be produced on pasture alone without the need for graining.

Studies done on flocks that cross in St Croix genes have found the lambs to be more hardy at birth, with improved parasite resistance and great growth on pasture alone.

If you feel these are perfect for your homestead, a few of this springs lambs are available for sale. All lambs are out of registered stock and are ready to go. They will be breeding age this October-November just in time for the usual fall breeding schedule.

Ram lambs are $250 each or ram pairs for $450, ewe lambs are $300.
