FAST Growing Windbreak/Privacy Hybrid Willow Starts
Hybrid Salix Willow Trees are one of the FASTEST Growing trees that are used for Shade, Privacy and Windbreak! The Hybrid Willow Tree can grow 6 to 10 ft. per year even in our local clay soil as long as you water it when it is young. Once established these Hybrid Willow trees are super drought and heat tolerant. Watering the trees for the 1st 6 months is important but once established they will only need water every few weeks in hot weather when there is no rain. The watering schedule will be in the growing directions.
The picture here is of just 2 year old trees! The more water they get, the faster they will grow. They top out at about 40 to 65 feet in 10 years.
it is recommended that you prune the tops for the first 2 years to force thicker growth habit. It is also important that you AT LEAST plant them every 5 feet for an effective WIND BLOCK. If you still want some privacy as well as wind block capabilities in the winter after they loose their leaves, it is recommended that you stagger two rows of Willow trees and plant them 8 feet apart with an 8 foot space between rows (obviously the closer you plant them... the thicker and more excellent the hedge) With this double row layout you can cut the wind down by 30-40%- in the winter as well! This helps on heating bills.
