A Good Pony Is Hard To Find!


⭕ Little Topper is a gem! He has taught many kids to ride in his 20 years, and many more to come. He is middle aged for a pony, sound, sane and healthy. He measures at 40 inches, or 10 hands tall, so he is best suited for the 3-7 year old age range. Topper is a great ride alone pony, he has many trail miles. Will pony (lead) behind another horse, and has no problem keeping up with the big horses on trail. Not bothered by vehicles or equipment. He lunges walk/trot, so is great to teach a child their balance and basics in the arena. His previous child also rode him for barrel racing and western games. Rides in a regular snaffle bit.

Good for farrier, I can rasp his hooves myself. The farrier said the first time he saw Topper that many ponies this size have foundered in the past, but not Topper! That is one consideration with this boy though- he should not have grain, too many treats, or be turned out on lush grass without first acclimating him from hay to grass. He is a very easy keeper, and is turned out on pasture 24/7. Non dominant in the herd, but can still be turned out with the big horses. Generally a wimp on the pecking order, but persistent enough to get his share of hay. No vices, respects single strand electric fence.

My 8 year old daughter can catch, groom, saddle and bridle Topper herself. What a great confidence builder! One note: every child should be given proper instruction and monitoring while learning how to safely handle a horse. Please do not just turn the pony over to the child and think the pony will teach the child how to put his saddle on. Just because he is child safe does NOT mean that no adult supervision is required.

The only things we have found that Topper does not like- being ridden bareback or double.

My daughter can load Topper in the trailer herself. He is a willing, sensible partner. She is sadly outgrowing him, and we know there is another family that will love Topper just as much as we have.
