WWII Emergency Issue Currency!


⭕ These notes were issued shortly after the outbreak of US involvement in WWII. The Hawaii notes were to be used in the Pacific in lieu of existing US currency, in the belief that the Japanese might have counterfeited current-issue US notes. Series 1934A Silver Certificate plates were used, with modifications. Similar notes, also with modifications, were issued to Allied soldiers prior to the invasion of North Africa. The notes include the following: FR 2300 - $1 Hawaii; graded PMG AU 55 (Almost Uncirculated) FR 2303 - $10 Hawaii FR 2306 - $1 North Africa; graded PCGS About New 50 (the yellow overstamp came out a bit orange in the photo, but you can trust the grade) FR 2309 - $10 North Africa; graded PCGS AU 53 The values of each were obtained from 2 sources: Paper Currency of the United States, 18th Ed., by Arthur and Ira Freidberg (thats where the FR numbers come from!) Database of previous auction results, Heritage Auctions (HA.com) Youll find such notes on eBay, but the values are far too varied to get an accurate fair-market value. IMHO, the Heritage values are the best fair-market indicators, as those are from previous live and on-line auctions! The values from the Freidberg book are from the 18th Edition, which is now a few years out-of-date (the 19th Edition is available). Based on those sources, $350 for all four notes is probably as close to a fair-market valuation as youre likely to get. But dont take my word for it; go to HA.com, create your own account, then search the Auction Archives. Be sure to search for notes with similar grades! Asking price is firm!.
