McKee Upright Steam Boiler


⭕ This upright boiler is made by Eclipse Fuel Engineering Co. Called The McKee Automatic Gas Fired Steam Boiler. It was probably used in a laundry or maybe a creamery. The boiler measures 54 tall overall. The boiler itself is 20 ID x 28 long. There are 62 flues 7/8 ID and one flue 1 1/2 ID. The shell of the boiler is 1/4 thick and the crown sheet is 3/8 thick. The bottom of the boiler is forged from the same sheet as the shell. There is no seam in the bottom. The boiler sits in a fitted base on three legs. The gas fire burner is missing. The top of the boiler has a fitted flue gas collector that funnels down to a 6 stove pipe. There are three standard hand holes down low and one hand hole a few inches above. The hand hole covers are missing. Also miscellaneous threaded holes for fittings, water sight glass and such. I was surprised and pleased when I cleaned the boiler out that there was not any of the usual muddy sediment in the bottom. All I found was some refuse from mouse nests. I think that is a good sign, but I cannot warrant that the boiler is sound. I have seen one fault, the large flue has a hole in it about 2 below the crown sheet. Also, there are three large pieces of the flue gas collector broken out. Those are visible in the photos. I estimate the weight at 550 pounds. I found a formula at http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/boiler-horsepower-d_1061.html that rates a boilers Horse Power = Area of Heat Transfer (SqFt) / 17. Using this, the boiler would rate at about 2.4 HP. But boiler capacity varies greatly with steam pressure and temperature. So, this is just a ball park number. I will be glad to make additional photos at your request. And make detailed inspections of any part that you can tell me about. I will represent the boiler honestly and completely, but I cannot warrant whether the boiler will pass a certification inspection. Asking $300. .
