97 Subaru SVX


⭕ Subaru SVX for sale. 1500 or best offer..OR TRADE. I will trade for a rusty old ugly van (ford or chevy.. NO Dodges or Chryslers) that DRIVES with no major issues. Im not looking for something as unique and rare. I have a large family and a two door just doesnt work. I can also throw in 500$ in cash towards this trade if you are the type that loves to restore unusual sports cars but want more for your van.

Lets start with the good since its a shorter list. This car DOES run and drive,.. but like all older vehicles, it has issues. It has 3 new tires, brand new alternator, battery under a year. Outside looks fairly decent. Its a subaru so despite issues it keeps running not to mention the fact its an SVX and you wont be finding these in a junk yard. Runs and Drives. Motor and Transmission seem to be strong. I havent had any slips or engine knocking. When everything IS working like its suppose to, the car is bloody fast. I am the third owner.

Now the bad. Despite the new condition of the alternator and battery, the alternator is NOT charging the battery at all. I dont know if its the wiring or if it needs a new relay. When the battery is charged on a charger the car starts just fine. However, due to the fact it isnt keeping a charge, you may end up stopped at a stop light and the bloody thing dies and wont start again without a jump. I researched possible problems with the SVX regarding this issue on the SVX lovers forum and came back with 3 possible causes. Old rusty wiring as it is a 97 and not a 2017.. Relay has gone bad and needs replaced, and one gentleman said that the battery is the wrong battery for it and even though its the one listed FOR the SVX on advanced or autozones computers, being a sports car, it has a greater demand on its power and requires a sturdier more expensive battery.

Also bad, one of the rims is bent. The other 3 are fine. I didnt realize this when I bought it. Walmart still stuck on a tire though saying its still usable. The one older tire keeps going flat. When I air it up it lasts for several days.

Passenger side back wheel grinds so Im guessing it will need new bearings or bearings greased. Driver side needs a new windshield wiper. The whole thing. Not just the blade. My bad..

Insides need a serious cosmetic make over. Driver side seat is ripped on the seem. Rest of the seats are great condition. The person who had it before me or before them did work under the dash and well, as you can see by the picture, they were no mechanics and didnt respect the car at all. And apparently they pulled out the inside frames to the doors and tried to replace one side with screws and didnt bother replacing the other side at all. This doesnt take away from performance but it isnt pretty either.

It passed inspection a year ago, but is throwing two codes now. P0330 (Knock sensor circuit malfunction (Bank 2)) and P0400 (EGR flow malfunction).

On top of all this, it USE to randomly turn off in the middle of driving it and have to be slipped into neutral and restarted then slipped back into drive. The vehicle was throwing a code for the crankshaft position sensor during this time. Since I couldnt afford 750$ (advance autos cost for a new one for the SVX) I went back to the forum to see if there were other vehicles it could interchange with. The 97 Subaru Legacy has similar parts that can be used in exchange. So for 24$ we ordered one for a legacy and used it instead. It had to be modified to fit as the mounting brackets were different, but it fixed the problem and the code is no longer being thrown and it hasnt died while driving since.

This car is a fixer upper. It can be used for parts or can be fixed up and driven. It has been being used as a daily driver but I am just sick of breaking down and needing jumped all the time. I dont have patience for this. I dont have the time or money either and Im not really that obsessed with sports cars, I dont care how rare they are. I just want a simple ford I can fix with duct tape and paper clips if I have too.

I will consider all offers. I need a bigger vehicle anyways with a baby on the way. Trades for ford or chevy vans or trucks also considered. Doesnt have to be pretty, just drivable.

Almost forgot. The title is salvaged. First owner was in a front end collision. No damage was done to the motor but the front end was crumbled and the windshield shattered. According to the second owner the cost of the windshield is what earned its salvaged title. (Not sure if this is true as I have never been in a wreck before, but its only fair to warn others of this..) The front end and windshield were replaced by first owner.
