Montaut/Gamy Framed Hand Water Colored Print


⭕ These prints were produced to document the quickly changing times in the history of transportation. These were early prints created using a complicated process. These designs were originally created by Ernest Montaut. He was joined by his wife Marguerite Montaut who sometimes signed as Gamy. After his death, she continued producing this art.
All of these prints were made using the pochoir method of production. Each print was outlined and lithographed without color. These prints were used as templates and stencils were then cut out for each individual color. Water color paints were applied by hand to each print using these stencils as guides. The whole process was very labor intensive and sometimes took days to complete each print. There were professional artist that worked along with them and I believe these artist names appeared on the individual prints.
These are unique pieces of art, documenting the ever changing transportation at the turn of the 20th century. If you do your homework you will find they are priced very fairly. Cash and local pickup only. Mount Vernon section of Baltimore.
